Meet your private Egyptologist after breakfast and drive to the Giza Plateau, where the pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinus rise straight from the desert beside the eternal Great Sphinx. There is time for photographs and an optional camel ride before you head to the Valley Temple of Chephren.

The day continues at the Egyptian Museum, home to Tutankhamun's golden treasures and room after room of pharaonic masterpieces. A relaxed lunch follows before you return to your hotel.

A free day on the Red Sea. Relax on the beach, unwind at the resort, or add an optional boat trip to snorkel or dive among the coral reefs and tropical fish for which Hurghada is famous.

A free day in Cairo to relax or explore at your own pace. Optional excursions are available, from the pyramids of Saqqara and Dahshur and the ancient capital of Memphis to the churches of Coptic Cairo or a day trip to Alexandria on the Mediterranean.

After breakfast you disembark and transfer to the airport for the flight to Cairo, where our team greets you again and escorts you to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free to relax or explore the city at your own pace.

Explore Aswan this morning, beginning at the High Dam before a short motorboat ride to the island sanctuary of Philae, dedicated to Isis. See the granite quarries and the Unfinished Obelisk, and enjoy an optional felucca sail around Elephantine Island and a visit to a colourful Nubian village.

As the ship sails south, a horse-drawn carriage brings you from the dock to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, among the best-preserved temples in all of Egypt. Cruising on to Kom Ombo, you visit the unusual double Temple of Kom Ombo, shared between the crocodile god Sobek and Horus the Elder. Meals are served on board as you continue upriver.

Cross to the West Bank, the great necropolis of Thebes. Descend into the painted royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings, admire the terraces of Hatshepsut's temple at Deir el-Bahari, and pause beneath the towering Colossi of Memnon. An optional sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the monuments is available for early risers.

Disembark after breakfast to explore Luxor's East Bank — the sprawling Karnak Temple with its Hypostyle Hall and sacred lake, and the elegant Luxor Temple. In the afternoon you transfer to the airport for the flight back to Cairo, where you are met and taken to your hotel.
